how do you write an essay in one night you don’t of course this is not a desirable situation to be in and always do your best to avoid having to do an all-nighter but at the end of the day we know that students and all-nighters you know it is what we do our students and we’re not great with prioritizing a lot of your time and we end up in these situations but I’m going to give you my tips and tricks on how to do your coursework in one night so this really is a situation where you’re against the clock my first tip is to start as early as possible now since you’re in this predicament I’m assuming you’re not great at starting early in the first place but as early as you can if your work is due the next day try and get up and up they try and use your whole day if possible rather than just cramming it into the knife because then you can take longer breaks and you can space things out a bit more the next thing you need to do is find the place where you work best I would avoid your bed at all cost because you made me when intention but it is very very easy to go from work into a nap to sleep in to wakin up with no essay so personally I’m second year I don’t live on campus I live in a house so I have a living room I have a dining table I have a sofa you know a home situation so I try to work either at my dining table or I work sitting and the sofa I tend to switch between the two or so I bring my do you made it down wrap it around myself and get comfortable on the sofa and all night there is nothing without snacks so definitely make sure you’ve got some rain for you make sure you’ve got lots of snacks lots of water to keep you going and I found that when I’m eating healthy snacks and healthy food I don’t feel as sluggish so try and have lots of water some people you know will drink coffee and Red Bull I’ve never really been a big coffee drinker I don’t drink hot drinks I like Red Bull preferably with vodka so I’m not really a Red Bull drinker in everyday situations if you are a regular caffeine taker then I’d say you can definitely do it without resorting to coffee and Red Bull I drink lots and lots of water I guess to the toilet litchi every hour when I’m writing the essay because I am constantly drinking water and it really does keep me going and my favorite healthy snack is apples and peanut butter their acne don’t have me apples and peanut butter genuinely just keeps me going through all-nighters the next thing that you need to do is deal with your distractions let your friends know if it’s a group track put it in the group chat but you’re not airing then just you just have work to do and you won’t be replying put your chats on mute put your phone on silent turn your phone off even better if needs to be put it on social media but otherwise just close the app I’m sure there are lots of apps out there you can put your laptop on your phone that can block you from going to certain sites but that’s all a bit long surely you can have the self-discipline to just censor yourself maybe if you’re living at home give your parents your phone turn it off make sure it’s password protected and give your parents your permit tell them mum dad I’ve got work to do tonight and I don’t want to be distracted or if you live with other people you know you have when you have housemates or flatmates maybe give one of them your phone and let them know that look guys I really don’t want to be distracted so I want you to keep this away from me at all costs or give yourself designated phone breaks maybe every few hours you check your phone reply some messages and then your get back to your work once all that’s done it’s now time to start the essay right and I always say you plan and especially when you’ve got limited time planning is key try and answer the question you know with a plan and then when you start doing your research you can focus in specifically on essays and journals and articles that are going to prove your weight and you can ignore stuff that may be relevant to your course but it’s not relevant to your precise essay because when you haven’t really looked at the essays before it can be a bit overwhelming trying to find out and figure out where to start but if you narrow it down a little bit you can save yourself a lot I’m necessarily reading make sure you you’ve handout for essay but also plan out your day if you’ve got enough time plan out when you’re gonna have breaks plan out how many words you think you should reach by the time that you get to a certain point you know by 8 o clock I want to have done 500 word expired six I want to have done a thousand you know that kind of thing maybe even plan in and that will see if that’s really really necessary plan everything out so you have stuff to look forward to you have bricks to look forward to like I said you really do want to avoid this situation altogether so if you do find that you are procrastinating with your work a lot then please do make an effort to figure out why is it that you’re just lazy or are you finding your subject difficult because I realize that if you are struggling if you’re finding it hard to do a certain topic you’re more likely to you know push it off and not when I have to tackle it so made me figure out why you’re procrastinating if this becomes a bigger issue and if this becomes more regular so those are just some of the ideas that I have things that I do personally and things that have worked for me when doing an all-nighter and do in my coursework I want to know if you guys have any specific friend of mine who’s actually back in school working on our MBA and she told me that Kansas that writing technique that you taught me months ago it’s absolutely saving me a lot of time in school and I was like which writing techniques she said the one about the okay I’m about to teach it to you but this writing technique it’s got her a lot of success in school it’s helped me all through undergrad in grad school and I want to share with you today now I’m going to show you two techniques and the first technique it’s called well before I tell you what it’s called let’s talk about three steps in the writing process we all go through this and the steps are this you go through the brainstorming phase this is where you think about what you want to write about this is where you consume all your thoughts then you have the typing phase where you’re actually typing and writing your thoughts onto paper go into the computer and then you have the editing and proofing phase there’s one thing that you can do one simple thing you can do to speed this whole process up and that’s this go ahead and gather all of your thoughts go ahead and think about what it is that you want to say and then you’re going to type that but here’s the trick the technique is called the black screen the blank screen is just that simple so I’m going to light up my computer screen here and the way the black screen works is this you go open up a Microsoft Word document or any type of writing processing system software that you use set up a blank document go ahead and set your cursor set your cursor and then before you would start typing your paper which we traditionally would do what I want you to do is set your mouse set your cursor and darken the screen black screen and then from there start typing start typing all of your thoughts start typing the paper start typing the concepts in your mind and I want you to start typing and do not stop keep your fingers moving keep your fingers typing as you write so I’m gonna demonstrate this for you okay here we go my just make up a store make up a paper the other day I read a biography of a successful man named Abraham Henderson and he talked about the virtual lifestyle and in that virtual lifestyle now you can see what i’m doing here is i’m keeping my thoughts keeping my fingers moving as i’m writing all of my thoughts down he talked about living abroad and working from his computer so i’m gonna stop right there now i want you to get the concept i was taking my thoughts typing i was messing up but I was getting my thoughts out on paper now once I’ve done that I can take my screen and just light my screen up and as you see here now I’ve made all my fun really really big so you can see on the screen but if I look at the things I typed I can see that I have a paragraph of words that were on my mind now on paper now now I can go back and make I made a few you know spelling errors which is expected but by going in now I’m saving some time because I got that first phase of right now think about how much time this will save you if you go ahead and blacken the screen now if you don’t have the key on your keyboard to black the screen you can just put a towel or a shoot or something over your screen to protect it but the key step here is to keep your finger moving keep your fingers moving keep typing keep writing don’t stop get it all out get it all out get it all out and once you’re done then turn the screen on and look at your paper and start editing from there what traditionally happens is that we are typing and editing at the same time typing and editing at the same time go going back to fix the mistakes that we made that’s pretty cool that’s called the black screen technique now here is another technique for you this is a mobile devices in the iPhone and like the iPhone or droid yeah just got an email just like the iPhone the droids and your iPads any of your notebooks your Kindles some of those things have this little thing on it called a microphone and you can use your mobile device to write your school papers in less time by setting up a a note a blank note or a notepad in your phone and then just pressing I have a little microphone on here the other day I read a biography by a guy named Abraham Henderson period he spoke about the importance of living a full life period and in that book he talked about living a virtual lifestyle period where he had a home but he chose to travel the country travel the world and live and enjoy his life period I can’t record and hit done and looky there I have all of my words right there on my mobile device and now I can go in and edit this or I can copy it and then email it to myself open a Microsoft Word document and finish the editing process that’s pretty cool APA-MLA Annotated Bibliography: Complete Guide to the Annotated Bib Part 4

to get started using site fast first create your free account click on the create account tab in the upper right and fill in your name email address and a password about sharing your email address I have never received any spam from site fast after your account is created you’ll be back on site fast homepage with the welcome message and your first project ready to be created with the name Biblio 1 you can change that name later now choose your citation style APA MLA or Chicago let’s do APA first note that it is already selected next let’s select the source type web page book journal including print and online journals web image newspaper online video including YouTube and 12 more types revealed by clicking on the more down arrow let’s do a web page included with the web page designation is what some call a web article or website when we click on web page were given two options manual and autofill to use autofill all you have to do is paste in the full URL of the web article you found for example here’s an article entitled America’s war on drugs has failed this program might be the solution we copied the URL from the browser window and carefully paste it in to cite fast being sure there are no extra spaces before after or in the middle now click on the search icon site fast fills in some information but as you can see the citation is incomplete we have to fill in the author’s first and middle initial do not put a period after the initials cite fast we’ll do that for you and the author’s last name if there’s more than one author click on the add author tab notice that as we fill in the blanks the citation on the right changes automatically taking shape in real time next we have to find a publication date if one is given looking back at the original we see that this article was published on May 7 2015 so we go back to cite fast and fill that in now look at what site fast is telling us about capitalization of the articles title in APA only proper nouns the first word of the title of the first word after a colon or period in the title are capped so we make those changes to the title that we pasted in next is format since this article is part of a larger site Huffington Post we leave the first radio button checked next we have to answer the question is the source material likely to change over time such as happens on wiki’s blogs and other social media the answer is no so there is no need for a retrieval date as you can see the URL has already been captured for us excellent let’s save our work before going any further there it is now since we’re creating an annotated bibliography let’s click on the pencil edit icon and add our annotation scroll down and click on add annotation you can expand the text field by clicking on the hatch lines and pulling to the right but it is probably best if you already have the annotation right now so that you can simply paste it in that’s what I will do now we click on update voila we’ve created the first entry for our annotated bibliography our last step is to click on export to word and watch the magic happen a Word document is downloaded to our computer and when we open it up we see a perfectly formatted APA citation with the annotation beneath it out standing to add additional sources and annotations simply click on manage bibliographies scroll down and use the drop down menu to select the bibliography you wish to work on this is where you can rename the project if you wish so let’s give it a specific name that will help us identify it in the future type in the new name and click on rename done to add more sources click on open now all you have to do is as they say in the shampoo business lather rinse repeat first choose the source type this time let’s do a journal article from the library just to show how the citations are different let’s try autofill first here’s the library article we’ll be using we copy and paste the full title slowly learning the hard way America’s war on drugs and implications for Mexico and then we click on site fast search icon site fast found our article so we select it and as you can see the entire citation is instantly and automatically filled out for us all we need to do is click on add annotation and paste in our pre-written annotation after clicking on save annotation this time when we export to word document we see that our annotated bibliography has grown the two sources are in alphabetical order in the correct font and point size with the correct spacing and correct every day now if autofill cannot find your article simply go back and forth from article to cite fast copying the information from the library page to the site fast boxes for example this time let’s add another journal article but one that does not trigger autofill here’s an article we found in the library entitled winding down the war on drugs when we paste it into site fast the article is not found no problem we click on manual entry now we very carefully copy in the required information first is the author’s first and middle initials both M then her last name Sanchez Marino we have to type in her name not copy it because the library page has all caps what format since we’re using an online library we must select online electronic your published let’s see X 2015 a full article title is winding down the war on drugs when we paste it in once again we’re warned that we have to use lowercase in APA so we make those changes the journal title is a simple copy and paste Harvard International review we put it in we can also quickly type in the volume number 36 and the issue number for page numbers are entered with a hyphen with no space on either side of the — in this case H numbers are 35 through 39 then we need either the DOI or the publishers URL we scroll down the articles library record and we see that there is no DOI assigned so we click on that journals title and on the next page we’re given the publishers URL we copy and paste that into site fast now let’s add our annotation after the annotation is added let’s export the whole thing to a word document again as you can see the manual method took a bit longer but the results are the same perfect citations and a well formatted annotated bibliography follow the same procedure for either of the other two styles they’re just as simple site fast as simple as it gets oh and did I mention it was free you
